Good guitar lessons come in a number of different formats. Here are the three most typical:

Books

These can be great for those who have the patience to sift through them. A basic guitar lesson book will start out describing the instrument, its strings and so on. It will be up to you, however, to decipher the book and take what you read and put it into action. The important things to pay attention to are such things as basic terms, fingering techniques and so on. If you follow along well, books can provide very good guitar lessons. This form of learning works very well for some students, but others require guitar lessons that are audible an visual to truly learn.

Video lessons

Whether offered online or through a DVD or VHS, this can be a great way to learn the guitar. These prerecorded lessons provide everything a face-to-face class would except the feedback. Video lessons, too, start out with the basics and move their way up to more advanced techniques. The benefit here is the fact students can see and hear the lessons as they progress. It’s often easier to learn the guitar when you can see where your hands and fingers need to be placed and hear what an end piece is supposed to sound like. While these won’t totally replace face-to-face lessons, they do have their place and many a good guitarist has started out with video courses.

Face-to-face

This is the preferred method by many who undertake guitar lessons. They can be as good as the instructor, however, and his or her ability to convey complicated lessons to students. The benefit of this type of learning is the fact the feedback is right there and the instructor can help you move your hands where they need to be if you don’t understand. The downfall with this type of lesson is the fact it isn’t on demand like a video class or a book. Unless you have a ton of money to spend on guitar lessons, you’ll only get an hour or a few a week of classes.

Guitar lessons are ideal for anyone with a love of music. The guitar, however, isn’t the easiest instrument on the block to learn. It’s important for students to expect a long learning curve in some cases. With proper instruction and a willingness to stick with it, it’s very possible for almost anyone to learn how to play.

Remember, learning the guitar isn’t an overnight pursuit. It will take time and a lot of it to go from beginner to expert. The more you put into the lessons, whether they’re books, videos or formal classes, the more you’re likely to get out of them.

Here are the simple six steps for teaching your dog new tricks:

1. Get your dog to perform the behavior.

2. Mark the behavior.

3. Reward the new behavior.

4. Repeat the behavior until it happens 90% of the time or more.

5. Add a verbal cue as your dog does the behavior to associate the word with the appropriate response.

6. Use your verbal cue to elicit the behavior.

You get particular behaviors by capturing, shaping, or luring the behavior. You mark the behavior with an audible click, or some other reward marker your dog has already learned which is understood to mean the reward is coming. Reward the behavior by following the click with her favorite treat or, in some cases, with a favorite toy or other desirable reward, such as swimming or going outside. Repeat the behavior until your pet is offering it automatically before you add the verbal cue, so she will associate the word with the correct behavior response. For instance, by saying “Sit” as she does it, you are telling her that the name of the behavior she is doing is Sit. If you ask her to do it before she’s offering the behavior easily, you risk teaching her that the word sit means “stand there and look at me,” or worse, “sniff the ground and pull on the leash.” After your dog has heard the word at least a half-dozen times during the behavior, depending on how quickly she seems to learn, then you can say the word first to elicit the behavior. Be sure that her attention is focused on you so that she actually hears the word, and keep your body position the same as it was when you were getting the behavior before. If you had been doing the SIT while you were standing and you suddenly start asking for it while you are sitting, she probably will not understand that it is the same thing.

Give her a few seconds to respond. When she sits, click! and reward. If she doesn’t sit, use the minimum amount of assistance necessary (through body language or a lure, not through physical assistance) to get the behavior, and repeat the exercise. If you find that she will only respond if you help her, start to minimize the amount of help you give until she is sitting for the verbal cue without any help from you.

Your new Kindle wireless reading device is great for holding e-books and audio books but did you also know you can display your pictures on your Kindle? Keep in mind that the Kindle has a gray scale display, not color, so the quality of your pictures won’t be great. But, despite that it might be nice to have a few of your favorite pictures for quick viewing on your Kindle.

The process for loading and viewing pictures on your Kindle is not entirely intuitive, but it’s not difficult for you to master. Follow the steps below and you’ll have more than just books on your Kindle.

1. Get a collection of pictures you want to load on your Kindle. These can be color images but remember that your Kindle will display them as gray scale images.

2. Use a photo editing program to reduce the size of your images before loading them into your Kindle. The Kindle screen can display a picture at a maximum size of 550 pixels high x 450 pixels wide. There is no sense loading large images – which will take-up a large amount of your Kindle’s memory – if the image size is limited.

3. Attach the Kindle’s USB cable to both your Kindle and your computer.

4. Once the screen letting you know your Kindle is attached to your computer via USB appears you can double-click on your computer’s “My Computer” icon.

5. Your Kindle should appear as one of the disk drives attached to your computer.

6. Double-click on your Kindle drive. You will see several folders. One for Audible books, one for documents, and one for music.

7. Add a new folder to your Kindle called “pictures”.

8. Open the new “pictures” folder and create one sub-folder for each of the groups of pictures you wish to load onto your Kindle. For example “Moms Birthday” might be one folder and “Summer Vacation 2009″ might be another. These folder names will appear on your Kindle’s Home Screen so make them descriptive.

9. Open each new sub-folder then copy the pictures you’ve collected into their appropriate folder.

10. When you are done take a look at your Kindle’s screen. If the USB activity indicator at the bottom right side of the screen is not showing any activity you can remove the USB cable from your Kindle.

11. Go to the Home Screen of your Kindle. Press the “ALT” key and the “Z” key at the same time to refresh your Kindle’s list of e-books. The screen will blink a few time – when it stops use your “Next Page”, “Prev Page” buttons to locate the new picture folders you created in Step 8.

12. Scroll to the picture folder you want to open then press the scroll wheel to select it. The folder will open and in a moment or two your first picture will appear. You can move through your pictures by pressing the “Next” or “Prev” page buttons.

Audibles

Even though these are not strictly compulsory, you might enjoy the extra security and benefits of wearing one. Although you do not really have to rely on it, getting an extra altitude warning would be very useful. These are very useful if you’re doing various disciplines like: freefly, flat-fly, and breaking off high. This is because your freefall time would vary from one dive to another.

If you want to go freeflying, most coaches wouldn’t let you jump if you don’t have an audible, since they’re such a helpful safety precaution, especially if you’re learning how to fly with higher speeds.

Choices would vary from the basic models or the top of the line, which would also act like a log book, measuring your freefall time and speed, and could be connected to a computer to get more statistics. Basically, the more the functions, the higher the price would be.

Helmets

This is yet another mandatory piece. If you’ll be buying one, you should consider bother safety and comfort. You should try on as much as you can so you’d find the perfect fit. If you want extra protection, wearing a full-face would be your right pick. It also gives added security if you’re wearing contact lenses.

Placing a hook knife on your chest strap is not really a good idea, since it can be easy to lose. Your leg strap is the more preferred choice. To keep your knife sharp, try not to use it for other tasks.
